Ethics in ancient Greece
The ancient Greeks were among the first people to consider ethics, intellectual property and rights of individual in society. The Greeks “created” (δημιουργήθηκε) ethics (from the Greek word ethos: ἦθος, ἔθος, plurals: ethe (ἤθη), ethea (ἤθεα) that came from χαρακτήρας: character that had the originally meaning of accustomed place. It first appeared as a place or barn for horses) by realizing that different people in different societies did things in different ways. The Greeks used the discovery method as a tool for critical reflection on what was defined as “right” and “wrong.”
The Greeks of antiquity realized that there was no absolute correct or incorrect way since there was no singular deity, no any singula...Read More
Gannett publisher pushed through an endorsement by the Des Moines, Iowa, Register that followed the decree for all other papers: to support Mitt Romney despite his being the least qualified candidate ever for the US presidency. Lies, subtefuge and distortions were thinly veiled in the endorsement as exposed here.
Freud argued to study that which is of this world, and work to improve the conditions of all people. Jung argued that ideas have substance and that religion is a reality and thus can be studied. The Republican Party and Mitt Romney use Jungian psychology in justifying CEOs telling employees how to vote. Obama and the Democrats want individual choice, secret ballot and progress for people. The Roman Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus spends more than 20% of its budget to defeat human and civil rights to move the USA closer to a theocracy.
Freedom of speech comes with responsibility of what is said and whether or not it is true. Because of a biased movie (Innocence of Muslims), the world of Islam broke into flames, fanned by a Florida preacher and a former movie producer--neither gifted with languages nor knowledge of texts. Religion has always been the catalyst for wars, and religious leaders the butchers from the beginning of time to this day.
State legislators have been racing to make abortion illegal since Republicans swept into the house and senate in numerous states. Misogynism became key with the elevation of religion above individual choice, and when women fired back at the Republican assault on women, they women were silenced, degraded, and punished in the name of a loving god. How did religion change the USA from a democracy into a theocratic plutocracy in Michigan, Oklahoma, and elsewhere?
The nation of Peru is impoverished and uneducated because of a corrupt government, church control of the state, poorly or untrained teachers, a venal military and police force that is an active part of drug trafficking, and most of all because of a odiously opportunistic Congress and the Fujimoristas in it--such as Martha Chavez. Alberto Fujimori went from an underpaid professor of agriculture to a multi-millionaire once he became dictator with the support of Martha Chavez--who denounces the families who mourn their dead executed by government paid assassins--and vows to dismantle a memorial to the children and young the national spy network (SIN) murdered in cold blood. No one is more cold-blooded in Peru than Martha Chavez and the Opus Dei archbishop of Lima: Juan Luis Cipriani who matches the bishop in Dan Brown's book "DaVinci Code".
As the economic well-being of any people plunges, starvation and unemployment skyrockets, many will seek out demigods and dictators or turn to religion for temporary euphora. Some will argue that bad times are the sign of End Times and an Apocalypse is near. Is the Apocalypse fact or fiction? Here is the judgment of history, texts, and scholars.
The New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) is politically aligned with the Tea Party and on the payroll of big business. The goal of the NAR is to conquer the world for a Jesus who will return to rule as a soldier, basing their existence on Matthew 10:34 and End Times theology that sprung from the Fuller School of Theology. Key players are Michele Bachmann, Rick Perry, Sarah Palin, plus a host of self-anointed apostles and prophets: both in the USA and abroad.
Bill O'Reilly objects to Anders Breivik being called a Christian. Anders refers to himself as a Christian both on his Facebook page and in his 1500 page manifesto.
The GNP in the USA has consistently gone down while wages became stagnant and unemployment shot up--a trend begun by Ronald Reagan and reached its greatest extreme under George W. Bush. How great of a president was Ronald Reagan?
