American Family Association (AFA), Family Research Council (FRC). and 2nd Vote are white christian evangelical organizations committed to destroying equality and democracy, following the far-right Heritage Foundation. 2nd Vote claims that it is the “Conservative Watchdog for Corporate Activism” and boasts that it has gone so far as rating companies based on much the organization determines that they follow “traditional Judeo-Christian values” from the medieval period to today, standing today against the Equality Act (it passed the House in the 117th Congress on February 25, 2021),1 deeming it as “an unprecedented attack on freedom of expression”. It targets McDonald’s and Burger King as being “too liberal”, based on the two fast-food corporations do not contribute heavily to anti-choice causes but to “equality groups”. 2d Vote operates under the concept that Jesus was a liberal, hate people of color, wanted those who had abortions be executed, and that LGBTQ people would never have a place at Jesus’ table.2 Recently 2 Vote attacked Kellogg’s for their “Together With Pride” cereal.3
The American Neo-Nazi group, the Roman Catholic organization American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property (TFP) is a special campaign of The Foundation for a Christian Civilization, Inc (FCC)4 an anti-Semitic neo-Nazi group has started a petition against the cereal, claiming “pro-homosexual agenda is rearing its ugly head in your children’s cereal” and calling the cereal “sickening and perverted.” The TFP developed early connections with leaders of the religious and political right, including Paul Weyrich of the Heritage Foundation and the Free Congress Foundation and Morton Blackwell of the College Republican National Committee and the Reagan administration with the motto “Guns, God, and Guts” looking towards the day their Jesus will ride out of heaven and kill all those who do not support its mantra.
It was founded to help fundraising for a Catholic counterrevolution against communism, it subsequently became a civil cultural organization that aims to uphold and promote the values of Christian civilization where non-Christians would be barred from entering or living.5 It wants forced conversions to Roman Catholicism, and to this end TFP has continued its ties with the political right as a participating sponsor of the Conservative Political Action Conference, and by signing statements issued by the Heartland Institute that opposed housing finance reform legislation since it would help people of color get out the slums and encourage their “rendering up” their suffering to glorify the Blessed Mother once they have found the True Church of Jesus Christ: the Roman Catholic Church in Rome, and discourage discussions of climate change in comprehensive energy legislation and in the State Department funding authorization to make certain there is no money going to transsexuals who they see as an affront to their loving god, or to anyone in the LGBTQ community. Jesus’ injunction to take care of the sick and dying only applies to Roman Catholics and political conservatives.
The Ruth Institute, a Louisiana-based Catholic organization aimed at halting the “sexual revolution” (terrified of “gay sex” that it wrongly claims in “immoral” since “no animals have same-sex experience”, an anti-LGBTQ hate group led by longtime marriage equality opponent Jennifer Roback Morse (who was divorced), deemed the cereal another product of “a radical agenda that targets children and families.”6 The Southern Poverty Law Center has judged the Ruth Institute to be a hate group7 noting it is part of the extremist Christian Right and is used to describe an apparently conspiratorial project to undermine the “traditional” heterosexual family in the name of sexual freedom.8
It is led by Jennifer Roback Morse,9, who James Buchanan has opined as one of the influencers of the Koch networks.10 The Ruth Institute was originally a project of the anti-LGBT National Organization for Marriage (NOM), created to conduct youth outreach, and to warn young people about the dangers of divorce, sexual promiscuity, and, especially, to recruit them in the fight to block the legalization of gay marriage. It is virulently anti-transgender and anti-LGBTQ, as Roback Morse wrote: “It’s really important to be well informed about what the church actually says about homosexual practice….The church is very clear that same-sex sexual acts are intrinsically disordered and can never be morally acceptable.”11 Roback Morse is frequently found with science deniers and white christian nationalists and white christian supremacists.
The white christian evangelical hate-groups praised Wendy’s for “donations totaling several hundreds of thousands of dollars to Catholic Charities and other Christian organizations,”12
claiming that Wendy’s has aligned with the group’s position on “issues of Life and Basic Freedoms” by supporting causes with “pro-life beliefs that are founded in faith.” The Catholic church lobbied for taxpayer funds and received $1.4 billion.13 with millions of dollars going to the dioceses that have paid hug settlements or sought bankruptcy protection because of clergy sexual abuse cover-ups.14 The Catholic dioceses are sitting of billions of dollars, and amassing more at taxpayer expense. As the pandemic began to unfold, scores of Catholic dioceses across the U.S. received aid through the Paycheck Protection Program while sitting on well over $10 billion in cash, short-term investments or other available funds, an Associated Press investigation has found. And despite the broad economic downturn, these assets have grown in many dioceses.15

- Roback Morse was raised a Catholic, but left it, married, had an abortion, left her husband, returned to school and earned her doctorate in 1980. She married Robert Morse in 1984, and later, regretting her abortion, returned to the Catholic faith. The couple adopted a two-year-old boy from Romania in 1991, and gave birth to a daughter in 1991–even though Robert and Jennifer believed they were not able to have children of their own.
