Freedom of speech comes with responsibility of what is said and whether or not it is true. Because of a biased movie (Innocence of Muslims), the world of Islam broke into flames, fanned by a Florida preacher and a former movie producer–neither gifted with languages nor knowledge of texts. Religion has always been the catalyst for wars, and religious leaders the butchers from the beginning of time to this day.
The Book of Mormon, like the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints (LDS), has declared that Blacks carry the mark of Cain and Ham/Canaan and cannot enter heaven. While this stand officially changed in 1978, it is still is the foundation for the Mormon faith and family.
State legislators have been racing to make abortion illegal since Republicans swept into the house and senate in numerous states. Misogynism became key with the elevation of religion above individual choice, and when women fired back at the Republican assault on women, they women were silenced, degraded, and punished in the name of a loving god. How did religion change the USA from a democracy into a theocratic plutocracy in Michigan, Oklahoma, and elsewhere?
Charles Worley’s rant against LGBT people and his desire to establish a concentration camp where all LGBT could die has met with resistence, but not from members of the clergy. Few want to read Leviticus 18:22 as it was written and within context. Today’s evangelical clergy are identical to the evangelicals in the Third Reich.
There are two verses in the Gospel of Matthew that are directed to tombs opening, dead are brought back to life waiting for Jesus. Today we call such phenomena “zombies” and there are theologians who discount their existence, but in the South Baptist group of seminaries, teachers, researchers, and students are told to accept their existence as the fulfillment of the prophecy of Jesus. The question is if this is an isolated case in theological history or one more plagiarism fitted into the Bible.
Viki Knox publicly ranted against LGBT, ordering select clothing not to be worn, and declaring her interpretation of the rules of life to be superior to others. Was it free speech protected by the First Amendment, or a hate crime based on irrational passion denying similar freedoms that Knox enjoys from other people she does not accept? What is the extent of bullying, especially in a state that has a strong anti-bullying, anti-discrimination law on the books?
Hate is fequently hidden behind the stain of “religious freedom” and expresses itself in bullying: not just one child hitting another, but teenagers and adults badgering others into committing suicide in an effort to reshape the world in the image wanted by the Koch Brothers of Kansas. Bullying costs millions of lives each year, and now states are fighting back passing strong anti-bullying laws, but the Liberty Institute and Tea Party, organizations created and funded by the Koch Brothers, are fighting hard to gain control of the government and Libertarian idealism that enriches only a few.
More crimes of violence and hatred are committed because of religion and mistranslations and errors in interpretation than for any other reason. Errors in the Bible must be exposed to understand Christian-Muslim hatred for each other and the wars of religion from the earliest times to the promised Armageddon of the New Apostolic Reformation that has anointed Rick Perry of Texas to sit on the left-hand of its god.
Over one million suicides occur each year. While many are the exit strategy of those suffering an incurable and painful disease, there is a growing number of suicides among preteens and teenagers–especially in the USA and in the Sixth Congress District of Minnesota that is represented by Michele Bachmann. No state is exempt, but a new thread is appearing: bullying those weaker than their opponents, and in the name of religion or “freedom” to express an opinion even if it compells children to end their lives. The greatest damage comes from evangelical Christians and the notion of a “holy life” style–or face the threat of going to hell. Why do people believe in this concept and when does one reach the breaking point and stop contemplating suicide and take action?
