Nazis Targeting Texas Jews Claiming Jesus Hates Jews

Around 10 members of the Goyim Defense League came to Austin from Florida this past weekend, hanging an anti-Semitic banner on a MOPAC overpass near the Shalom Austin Jewish Community Center on Saturday and then walking around the heavily trafficked 6th Street. “They were all wearing t-shirts with big swastikas and hats with the same,” said Renee Lafair, regional director with ADL Austin.

The Goyim Defense League (GDL)1 is a small network of virulently antisemitic provocateurs led by Jon Minadeo II of Petaluma, California.

GDL parodies the Anti-Defamation League’s name and logo by replacing “Anti-Defamation” with “Goyim Defense”—“Goyim” being a disparaging Yiddish and Hebrew word for non-Jews. They regularly use their platforms on YouTube, DLive and BitChut to post their podcasts and videos of their antisemitic exploits and homophobic and racist rants against non-Europeans.1 Minadeo, accompanied by his “partner” Jesse Shenk, began a December 2020 podcast by shouting, “Alright! White power! Heil Hitler! Fuck these kikes! And a shout out to all the goys out there of all colors and ethnicities that hate the Jew.” Neither men can claim white northern European heritage or ancestry.

GDL maintains that the Holocaust is a Jewish lie, and accounts of the Holocaust are merely propaganda or lies generated by Jews for their own benefit. Similarly, the GDL says that Jews were responsible for the 9/11 terrorist attack on New York and Israel intentionally targeted a U.S. warship during the height of the 1967 Six-Day War.

GDL members have also embraced a variety of antisemitic conspiracy theories related to the coronavirus3 and vaccines. During a December 2020 podcast, Minadeo, who refers to the virus as “Jew flu,” said, “They’re coming to do major torturing genocide. It’s the truth…These fucking kikes are going to try to put a fucking needle in your arm!”

In August 2020, a GDL group led by Minadeo drove through Santa Monica and Venice, California, shouting at pedestrians who were wearing protective masks. Referring to the activity as “mask shaming the sheep” they called pedestrians “yarmulke slaves” and told them to take off their “Jewish face yarmulkes.” In December 2020, Colorado GDL members Vincent Bertinelli and Joseph Bounds hung a banner from a Denver overpass that read, “COVID-19 IS A LIE. IT’S NOT ABOUT HEALTH. IT’S ABOUT CONTROL.” They are supported by David Duke, the Grand Master of the KKK, and the former Millwaukee County (Republican) Sheriff David A. Clarke, Jr.,4 a dedicated MAGA5 devotee of Trump,6, who had plagiarized parts of his master thesis to graduate from the Naval Postgraduate School in May 2017,7 was appointed sheriff by the Republican governor over better qualified candidates, and when he lost his position as sheriff, he was rewarded with a job with Homeland Security by Trump.8 Clarke is a vitriolic anti-George Sorors libeler who has claimed that Soros was personally responsible for COVID-19 and other coronaviruses in order to enrich himself further. joined the lie that coronavirus was both a Israeli and Chinese invention to destroy white people. A Twitter post promotes an antisemitic conspiracy related to martial law by claiming that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) “is controlled by the Chabad Lubavitch movement.” FEMA has long been a source of fear among those in right-wing circles who believe that the agency will use an emergency to round up Americans into detainment camps.  In a March 19 article published on VeteransToday.com, Ian Greenhalgh alleges that the spread of the coronavirus is an act of bioterrorism conducted by the Israelis and that the Chinese are being framed in order to hamstring China and keep them from attaining global power.

Local authorities were alerted that antisemitic flyers were left by the neo Nazi group on front lawns in San Antonio’s Churchill Estates and Deerfield neighborhoods. “We are aware of the incident in San Antonio, Texas, and are in regular contact with local authorities,” the FBI’s San Antonio field office said in a statement. “If, in the course of the local investigation, information comes to light of a potential federal violation, the FBI is prepared to investigate.”

On Tuesday, October 26, 2021, several members of the group set up a demonstration across the street from San Antonio’s Jewish Community Center, which was holding a Holocaust remembrance event at the time.9 There use to be Nazi gravestones in San Antonio’s Sam Houston National Cemetery but they were removed and replaced with new headstones.10 Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-San Antonio, expressed relief. “I’m glad that the headstones have been replaced,” he said. “It’s jarring to think that symbols of the Third Reich and the Nazi regime would stand in an American military cemetery.” The German graves have attracted notice over the years, though most of the POW headstones — with names, ranks and dates of death — are similar to the white marble markers for U.S. service personnel.11
