A “Christocrat” Plan to Turn Texas into a Theocracy Ruled By Pastors

Extremism is the reality that Texas has lovingly preserved: in politics, in religion, in enforcement (there are more crimes against humanity by police and sheriffs in Texas than in any other state) while education, health, family life and security remain low. The more hate a person can spew is the passport to political office, and ideas on working for the common good, raising education levels, acknowledging a racist past and precedents is laughed at and openly scorned.

Texas pastor Rick Scarborough (The Independent UK)

Rick Scarborough, from Pearland, Texas, a self-described “Christocrat,”1 strident anti-LGBTQ2 activist who declared AIDS to be a “homosexual disease”3 a loving (sic) god sent to punish4 “sodomites”5]–even thought AIDS strikes both genders and was found to have been diagnosed in a “Christian commune”, and longtime6 critic7 of public education, had begun raising money through his group Recover America to fund an effort to elect right-wing candidates to school boards in three Houston-area school districts.

Scarborough, a “Southern Baptist by trade” rails regularly and loudly, beating pulpit or podium with his fisting flaying the air and spittle spewing from his parched hatefilled lips, against sex education, hate crimes legislation, and gay marriage while calling for the impeachment of federal judges who do not interpret the law as he demands that they conform to his biblical images or suppressing dissent, addressing the superiority of the male and inferiority of woman (as defined by the Book of Romans written by an author alleged to have been an unchosen apostle of a legendary Jesus.8

James Madison on State and Church union

Scarborough, lacking in any historical training, and living in a surreal world of Texas fantasy deems his insight is surrendering to the voices of the “bible” that competent scholars and linguists have refuted over the past decades. Choking on arguments that the USA was founded as a nonsectarian nation and the historical records of the Founding Fathers who feared a state religion (i.e. Christianity in fact and Southern Baptist in particular) rifles in against women’s equality and the right of women to vote, LGBTQ+ rights (especially marriage) and racial equality. Scarborough said of marriage equality: “The end game is the complete destruction of the church of the Lord Jesus, the replacement of it with this liberal theology that’s not a theology, it’s a philosophy, human-made, it goes back to the fantasy of a Garden of Eden when Satan wanted to be God. Scarborough ignores the creation of a “Satan”–or devil–was an ancient Babylonian invention9 smoothed out in ancient Egyptian Pharaonic texts that were the foundation of the concepts for Heaven and Hell (and even “purgatory).10 We now have a race of humans that doesn’t want to acknowledge that there’s a God.… They’re after God. This country better be aware, we’ve suffered a lot of injustices, but I’m not sure God is going to tolerate this one very long.”11

Church and State separation Jefferson and Hitler

The Pearland pastor predicted that he and other Southern Baptist pastors would be arrested and thrown in jail following the passage of the Shepard-Byrd Hate Crimes Act back in 2009, told listeners to get ready to face death as a result of gay marriage: “We are not going to bow, we are not going to bend, and if necessary, we will burn.”12 Scarborough is attempting to raise millions of dollars to mobilize thousands of Texan pastors who will activate their congregations to ensure that conservative Christians “take over their local school boards” all across the state. He already has Southern Baptist Texas legislators working to deny gay and lesbian couples the status of marriage. Scarborough, like the majority of Southern Baptist preachers, is racist who believes people of color are not fit for his Kingdom of Heaven or salvation (that is reserved only for “the white race.”) and America will be damned for electing Obama13 as Black men bear the “mark of Cain” and are destined for the “fiery pits of hell.” He is fervently opposed to Hispanics and said: “If this country becomes 30% Hispanic, we will no longer be America.”14

Forensic historical Jesus

Racism and hatred is not unique with Scarborough.15 White christian evangelicals, as defined by Megan Fox,16 pictures Jesus was a white man with blue eyes–the antithesis of all Middle Eastern studies as forensic depiction of a “manly Jesus” shows a different man.17 Scarborough has won the support of Rep. Bob Good (R-VA) who is attacking Americans who do not follow “God’s laws,” and blaming them for all of society’s ills. Good  stood on the House floor and falsely declared, as has been widely reported, “nearly everything that plagues our society can be attributed to a failure to follow god’s laws for morality and his rules for and definition of marriage and family.”18 Good’s lies are regularly exposed but Southern Baptists and white christian evangelical Republicanazis ignore the truth.19 Good, like Scarborough, wants children to ignore health warnings and measures and die for their god.

Moderate Baptists reject the infamy of being called “Southern” Baptists: “moderate Baptists continue to call on the denomination to re-embrace its historic support for church-state separation. In a powerful speech delivered in early April at Hardin-Simmons University’s Logsdon School of Theology in Abilene, Texas, Brent Walker, executive director of the Baptist Joint Committee on Religious Liberty, debunked the Religious Right’s “top 10 lies” about church and state. One of those lies, said Walker, is the assertion that the United States was founded to be a Christian nation. “This is a whopper!” Walker said. “The United States of America is not a Christian nation – in law or in fact. We have a constitutional democracy in which all religious beliefs are protected. And that’s good. The same Constitution that refuses to privilege any religion, including Christianity, protects the rights of Christians to proclaim the gospel to all who will listen. As a result, paradoxically enough, we are a nation of Christians because we are not a Christian nation.”
