There is good, wonderful, news from Texas in the war against COVID.1 Gov. Greg Abbott tested positive Tuesday for COVID-19, according to his office. Abbott, who is fully vaccinated,2 is not experiencing any symptoms and isolating at the Governor’s Mansion,3 spokesperson Mark Miner said in a statement. Unfortunately, Abbott is getting the Regeneron’s monoclonal antibody treatment that the middle class and poor have no access to receiving: a stark reminder of white privilege. Abbott’s positive test comes as the coronavirus pandemic is ripping through Texas again, with key metrics like daily new cases and hospitalizations reaching levels not seen since the last wave in the winter. The governor has received national attention for his refusal to fight the latest surge by allowing local governments and school districts to mandate masks4 or vaccines.
Abbott’s positive test comes as the coronavirus pandemic is ripping through Texas again,5 with key metrics like daily new cases and hospitalizations reaching levels not seen since the last wave in the winter.

Regeneron’s COVID-19 antibody cocktail is too expensive for anyone but politicians and the upper 1% to afford.
Abbott, the hypocrite, pushed himself to the head of the line on December 22, 2020, to be vaccinated with the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.6 the governor has received national attention for his refusal to fight the latest surge by allowing local governments and school districts to mandate masks or vaccines.5 The experimental drug Regeneron was first given to Trump8 while it was not given to more worthy veterans in Walter Reed Hospital where Trump was being maintained. Regeneron’s drug is a cocktail of two monoclonal antibodies, called casirivimab and imdevimab. It is priced at $1200 a dose.9 The FDA said in authorizing the cocktail that it may be effective in treating mild to moderate covid-19 in adults and children 12 or older, and is indicated for those at high risk of developing severe illness. The company said that the government would pay $2.625 billion if all 1.25 million doses are delivered, implying a price of $2,100 per dose. That is well over the implied price of $1,500 per treatment course the company charged in its first agreement with the government.
Abbot went out of his way to hone “personal responsibility to avoid COVID and not get sick. Yet Abbott just the night before it was revealed he had COVID, attended a massive function at the Republican Club at Heritage Ranch, where he and no one wore masks in tight approximate vicinity with one another.10 The event in Collin County took place the same day it was reported that Texas needed five more mortuary trailers because the state of Texas anticipated a significant increase in COVID-19 and Delta Variant deaths.11
Collin County, as of August 16, 2021, registered 102,000 cases of COVIC and increase of 543, and 876 deaths–all that could have been avoided if everyone in Collin County (the home of Ross Perot and his companies).12 Collin County does not have an onsite laboratory to test for the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-2019).13

Texas had run out of pediatric ICU beds amid the COVID surge, and more children and babies were reported ill with Respiratory syncytial (RSV) the virus that Abbott ignored, like Trump, catering to his base of Republicanazis and businesses that have no sense of social responsibility.14 Most people recover in a week or two, but RSV can be serious, especially for infants and older adults. RSV is the most common cause of bronchiolitis (inflammation of the small airways in the lung) and pneumonia (infection of the lungs) in children younger than 1 year of age in the United States.15 No one mentioned the children being infected with COVID-19 by adults refusing to wear a mask over their nose and mouth, or placing a mask on their children–as antivaxxers and antimaskers think only of themselves and what they want. To add peppered insult to Texans, the notorious anti-mask governor, Greg Abbott, banned vaccine and mask mandates, but he made sure to get himself a 3rd booster shot and expensive monoclonal antibody treatments not available to ordinary Texans. Except for people with compromised immune systems, booster shots have not been authorized by the Food and Drug Administration. Texas recorded 144 deaths Saturday, according to the latest available data. The state also averaged 80 deaths over the last seven days, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention — its highest seven-day average of COVID deaths since mid-March.16 The COVID death toll of the elderly and the young is spiking with record numbers being reported–that are being reported, but many doctors and epidemiologists fear that it is not a complete picture as the poor and minorities that the Republicanazis in the state legislature hold no promise for them.
No one who refuses to wear a mask, keep six feet a part from others, refuses vaccination should be admitted to any hospital or seen by an doctor at any time for any medical treatment.17 All must be put in a sealed room with patients dying of COVID.18 There are no hospital beds in Dallas. Other Texas hospital beds are disappearing at wild-fire rates with hospitalizations surge 400% in the past month.19
Houston is running out of hospital beds as other hospitals are seeing a surge in COVID that Abbott kept ridiculing with an absence of medical information in his quest to open the state to more COVID deaths and profits.20 On August 15, 2021, there were 75,592 people hospitalized in Texas and 19,992 deaths caused by Abbott’s genocide. Because of Abbott and the Republicanazis in the Texas legislature, more than 47,000 Texas died of COVID in 2020.21 As everyone knew, The Republicanazis in the Texas legislature had no intention of helping the middle class and poor in Texas as they turned to their wealthy supporters instead to entrench the Republican oligarchy through gerrymandering opposition out of power. To the Republicanazis in the Texas legislature, it is cheaper to build more morgues or rent refrigerated truck to put the dead victims of COVID, than to mandate masks and Texas-wide vaccination.

Abbott just makes it so easy to say “Oh, the irony“.
And since he has been vaccinated, he should not develop enough symptoms to be more than ill for a few days if at all. His isolation should be 14 days, at least. So the previous day he was in a packed venue where very few people had masks, and most likely few had their vaccination. Is the Gov.’s office going to do contact tracing and alert everyone who was there of their pending illness? What about mandatory isolation? What about mandatory testing?
I don’t feel sad for Abbott and other anti-science Fuckublicans who placate to Low Information Voters (whom even DJTrump says is the base of his Party) and deny what would clearly save lives, the science, and even common sense. And I don’t want him to die, since the Lt. Gov. here is even worse than Abbott.
But we, as a common core of the citizenry of this State need to send every single member of the GOP to the unemployment line. Only because, despite the obviousness of the ignorance-bourne irony, he — and the know-nothing base of the GOP — will never learn.
Beautifully written, well thought-through comment. Abbott, Paxton and all the Republicanazis in the Texas legislature should be arrested for genocide and tried in a court of law. That is what the Allies did when Hitler fell. It is the same scenario with very little difference. Paxton has got to go: his remains under indictment and must be tried for the plethora of his crimes of insider trading, bribery, and genocide. I am working on an article about this Neanderthal in Texas politics who is a typical racist, misogynist, homophobe, elitist.
